Scanning enables teams to replace manual counts that may overlook a box, record the incorrect number, or become disoriented due to a preoccupation.
When considering the labeling technology used to fulfill orders, barcodes are frequently the default choice. Not only does each stock-keeping unit (SKU) have its barcode, but logistics personnel and retailers can also label pallets, shelves, and equipment with bespoke barcodes. RFID scanners have a wide field of view and can monitor any tag that travels within this range, even if the reader does not have a direct line of sight to the object. Active tags powered by batteries or external power sources can communicate data to receivers hundreds of feet distant, assisting retailers in keeping a consistent inventory count in their warehouse.
Drones
Drones are the newest technology to be explored for the warehouse.Today, drones can scan barcodes or collect RFID data for routine inventory counts. These systems can be operated manually or automatically and frequently fly over a warehouse, scanning barcodes and RFID tags to update inventory counts after pick-and-pack processes conclude. They not only generate totals, but some also collect location data. The warehouse management systems or other technologies obtain an accurate count and generate alerts for out-of-place items.
While drones are utilized sparingly, these inventory counting capabilities have been tested as far back as a 2016 Walmart test. Recently, some firms have begun developing drones capable of transporting bins and other things within a warehouse.
