Technology Booming Retail Industry
Retail Tech Insights | Wednesday, December 01, 2021
Fremont, CA: These days, we have seen significant growth in e-commerce, influencer marketing, and even augmented reality shopping experiences. As a result of the pandemic, e-commerce platforms have emerged as the most favorable phenomenon in the new standard for millions of shoppers across the country. For this reason, retail media outlets need to further improve the online shopper experience. From technological advances in the retail industry to unexpected new sales channel partnerships, here are the top innovative trends in retail to keep an eye on in coming years.
1. Approach to Influencer Marketing
Audiences trust the brand with a genuine voice, and today's tech savvy users can recognize over-created ads. Brands that do not prioritize authenticity in their influencer partnerships may find it difficult to achieve high engagement and ROI in the coming year. Influencer marketing was once all about selfies, carefully crafted captions, and heavily edited product shots. However, by 2021, there has been a significant shift in the way brands and influencers collaborate. Influencer content has gradually evolved to a raw, authentic aesthetic, and it is now time to focus on unique influencer content that prioritizes education, entertainment, and the viewer experience. To build and foster digital communities, brands have already begun collaborating with influencers to create and share content on IGTV, Instagram Live, TikTok, and Instagram Reels. It's a way to bring the brand's community together while driving a consumer-centric approach.
2. AR-Powered Shopping Experiences
Augmented reality (AR), machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) are innovative retail trends that are here to stay. And, while augmented reality (AR) in retail isn't new, it's progressed from a nice-to-have to an essential component of retailers' ecommerce offerings. Because so many consumers continue to rely on online shopping during the pandemic, retailers use augmented reality (AR) technology to bridge the digital and physical worlds. For instance, IKEA has proprietary AR shopping experiences; AR-powered commerce isn't limited to mega-brands. Similarly, Shopify launched Shopify AR, an easy-to-use toolkit that allows businesses to create their own augmented reality (AR) experiences to showcase their products to customers.

3. Same-Day (or Faster) Delivery
Without mentioning fulfillment, it won’t be a retail industry trend, especially with Amazon's same-day shipping sales at record highs. Customer expectations for shipping times appear to be increasing. With the rise of Amazon Prime, came two-day delivery, then next-day delivery, and finally same-day delivery. And, like Amazon, big-box retailers are expanding their less-than-four-hour express delivery options. However, in this day and age of instant gratification, customers want their orders as soon as possible. In the same-day work module, in-store-fulfilled orders are gaining popularity among customers and brands alike. Delivery is only getting faster, thanks to Amazon's Prime Air, which uses drone technology to deliver shopper orders in 30 minutes or less, and the rise of delivery robot startups.
Same-day delivery is far from a new concept (51 percent of e-commerce retailers already offer same-day delivery) but it’s like to be above standard with order fulfillment technology and standard continues to evolve in 2022.
