Cultivating Authenticity: The Art of Corporate-Style Influencer Engagement

Elaine Tai
Contrary to popular belief, social media marketing is not all fun and games, nor is it as simple as a single click. Behind every post lies a strategic battle with ever-changing algorithms. Content, format, goal setting and conversion paths are critical components, and the solutions are rarely straightforward. For instance, driving website traffic might sometimes be more effective with an engagement-focused strategy while leveraging the right budget to reach a broader audience through algorithmic favor.
The Rise of Key Opinion Consumers (KOCs) in Influencer Marketing
KOCs are emerging as a formidable force in influencer strategy. Their impact varies depending on the objective. While celebrities still dominate public attention for major launches, KOCs excel in fostering community engagement. These individuals are the epitome of ideal community members—passionate, generous, and receptive to dialogue. They embody the spirit of community over competition, and it is the brand’s responsibility to cultivate a welcoming environment that unites the right individuals.
Identifying and Empowering Your Brand’s KOCs
Selecting KOCs who embody your brand’s ethos is crucial. They should be living testaments to the brand’s values. For GEOX, KOCs extend beyond the realms of fashion and digital creation; they are professionals leading authentic lives in the corporate sphere. We honor their time by crafting unique, tailored content that resonates with their experiences.
GEOX: Championing Women’s Well-Being and Professionalism
In our second year collaborating with Women In Work for International Women’s Day, GEOX took a thoughtful approach. We partnered with French restaurant Maison ES to design a menu that reflects women’s intimate well-being, drawing inspiration from the chef’s journey through childbirth and depression. Each dish tells a story, creating a meaningful dining experience.
We also commend Cindy Wong, a corporate lawyer and mother, for her insights on professional attire. Initially reluctant, she became an authentic voice for our audience, sharing practical fashion advice tailored to the corporate environment. Her perspective allowed our guests to relate and apply styling tips to their lives.
As we discussed her participation, I reassured her, saying, “You are the perfect one to share. We don’t want a fashionista, fashion stylist or fashion editor. We want someone who understands the corporate world of our professional women guests.” The result was very pleasing. The audience could resonate with the situations and easily digest the styling tips.
Content That Connects: The Key to Engagement
With the right content, engagement follows naturally. At our event, where half of the attendees were KOCs, we reached an estimated 220,000 followers within the corporate sector—small in number but significant in influence.
This KOC-centric approach has been replicated across APAC markets, from Indonesia to Malaysia and the Philippines, fostering a movement where women support each other for collective progress.
Omnichannel Engagement: Beyond Satisfaction
Omnichannel strategies aim not only to satisfy guests but also to involve social media followers in the conversation. Engaging content doesn’t adhere to a binary of right or wrong; it thrives in a space where diverse perspectives can coexist. In a digital landscape often dominated by polarized views, we strive to create a platform for dialogue and shared experiences. Questions like “Will you travel for the holiday weekend?” or “Did you receive flowers today?” spark conversations and photo sharing, making each participant feel heard and valued.
Reflecting on Content Impact: The Responsibility of Choice
Mistakes are inevitable, prompting us to reflect on the value of our content. Is it worth sharing, publishing, or promoting? Does it contribute positively to our brand, followers, and customers? We must avoid falling into the trap of trending topics that offer no real substance. Our goal is to foster connections and communicate meaningfully, not squander our audience’s time. We shape our reality through exposure, and every image or video leaves an imprint. That’s the essence of a successful social media campaign.
