Javier Ferrer Alós, CEO, R&DTheir front-end operations have always required a careful balance between compliance, care and convenience. And while retail environments elsewhere have adopted smart checkouts and real-time inventory systems, pharmacies have had to proceed more deliberately, ensuring that innovation aligns with regulations and patient safety.
With Fast4shop, the age of passive pharmacy retail is finally coming to an end. Fast4shop is setting a new standard as a Retail 4.0 product with its contactless, hygiene-centric self-checkout system, powered by UHF RFID technology.
Fast4shop is not just another self-checkout terminal. Developed by Futurian, S.L., it is an intelligent inventory system designed specifically for high-traffic pharmacies, where innovation has long been constrained by regulatory caution and outdated infrastructure.
“Our system is built to make checkout frictionless, fast and clean—freeing up pharmacists to focus on what truly matters: medication counselling and prescription fulfilment,” says Javier Ferrer Alós, CEO, R&D.
Imagine walking into a pharmacy, selecting your over-the-counter essentials, dropping them into a bin and completing your purchase with a simple tap of your phone or card—no queues, no touchscreens, no waiting. Just a pharmacy visit in under 15 seconds.
Reengineering the Aisle, Not Just the Algorithm
In many pharmacies, prescription consultations and over-the-counter purchases collide at the same counter, creating what the company calls a “structural queue.” This embedded friction point suppresses high-margin product sales and drives customers toward more responsive retail alternatives.

Fast4shop dismantles that inefficiency by separating the two journeys. Prescriptions and clinical consultations are handled at the counter, while all other purchases—cosmetics, dietary supplements and hygiene items—are processed through a fast, autonomous channel. The system integrates RFID for real-time product recognition, infrared sensors to track item movement and NFC/QR interfaces for loyalty engagement.
Most importantly, Fast4shop isn’t a band-aid solution—it’s a reset, engineered by insiders. With two decades of Industry 4.0 experience and a career spent navigating the intersection of clinical and operational realities, Javier and his team built Fast4shop not as a layer of convenience, but as a systemic reset to how pharmacies operate.
Real-time Counting Every Item and Preventing Theft
Synchronising real-time inventory updates is one of the most helpful features for pharmacists. As items are dropped into the bag, the system instantly tallies them and pings the warehouse management system to update inventory in real-time upon payment, slashing administrative errors that can cost up to 24 percent of stock accuracy in relation to the total loss calculation.
RFID tags are assigned to every SKU, which broadcasts a unique electronic product code (EPC). This enables a full physical inventory count for a typical 7,000 to 40,000-item inventory in barely 30 to 90 minutes, without ever requiring staff to touch a barcode gun. This frees staff to spend less time counting boxes and more time helping people.
Fast4shop’s intelligent self-checkout terminal—SCO f4s—takes it a step further by integrating Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) with Acousto-Magnetic security and RFID deactivation at checkout. Unlike conventional anti-theft gates that can’t determine what has been paid for, Fast4shop’s system knows exactly what has passed through legitimately. Customers leave freely with paid goods, while alarms deter shoplifters, saving the pharmacy 57 percent from external theft and 17 percent from internal theft.
The system even anticipates more sophisticated threats. AM gate pedestals double as metal detectors, alerting staff to customers wearing foil-lined clothing, a common tactic used in retail theft.
When Convenience Becomes a Health Imperative
Now that epidemics are cyclical, the industry can no longer afford shared touchscreens. In such times, Fast4shop is not just ahead of the curve; it’s drawing the curve itself. From inventory management to hygiene protocols, Fast4shop provides every solution to really simplify the work.
In fact, Fast4shop is the first example of a new generation of POS systems that meets the Aseptic Retail requirement— designed specifically to prevent cross-contamination through touch user interfaces (TUIs), especially critical in pharmacy environments.
Fast4shop wasn’t just for today’s challenges. It was designed for tomorrow’s disruptions as well.
“We understand transitioning to a new retail model can be daunting for pharmacies that are tied to traditional workflows. Fast4shop’s turnkey package solves that by integrating directly with existing ERP and WMS systems, training staff in days and scaling production from its newly planned Valencia factory to meet global demand, says David Lladró, Co-Chairman of the Board, CFO.
Powering the Pharmacies of Tomorrow
Not resting on its laurels, Fast4shop’s R&D lab is now developing algorithms for self-service shopping baskets, with a planned launch in 2026 and full-size RFID shopping carts by 2027.
As the world continues to navigate seasonal flu outbreaks and public health threats, Fast4shop’s system transforms pharmacies into safe zones. When customers can walk in, grab what they need and check out in seconds without ever touching a screen, that’s not only retail 4.0—that’s a step forward in public health.
