Mitchell Goldman, Chief Operating OfficerEdgify solves this challenge through computer vision. It enables retail systems across to identify products based on visual recognition, reducing dependence on barcodes, manual lookups and customer input. This helps retailers improve product recognition, increase checkout accuracy and reduce both accidental and intentional mislabeling.
What distinguishes Edgify is how that intelligence is deployed. Its edge AI platform runs directly on existing devices, including self-checkout systems, weighing scales, scanners and other retail hardware, eliminating the need for expensive servers or new infrastructure. Retailers can extract greater value from the systems already operating across their stores.
"AI is largely solved in our world, what's not solved is how you deploy it," says Mitchell Goldman, Chief Operating Officer.
Turning Product Recognition Into Results
The ability to run AI directly on existing retail devices enables a wide range of applications across the shop floor. At the checkout, for example, the platform can accurately identify fresh produce and other non-barcoded items without requiring customers or employees to manually search for product codes. This improves labeling accuracy by up to 96 percent while helping retailers create a faster checkout experience.
Accurate product identification also creates the foundation for stronger transaction validation. The platform compares what it sees with barcode and scan data to identify non-scans, barcode switching, mislabeling, cart-based loss and other discrepancies that contribute to shrink. This capability enables retailers to recover up to 85 percent of preventable front-end losses, translating into a potential 1 to 3 percent increase in net sales.

The same computer vision capabilities are also being applied to weighing scales, where employees have traditionally relied on manual product selection to generate labels. At a major UK grocer, for example, staff previously relied on manual product selection when generating labels. The technology helped automate that process, reducing the time required to generate labels and improving productivity within e-commerce picking operations.
A top US fresh market grocer applied the same capability to help standardize the identification of prepared food items like ceasar salads on weighing scales. This reduced inconsistencies that could lead to compliance issues, including errors involving allergens and product labeling. Since implementing the technology, compliance-related incidents fell from approximately 60 per week to just two over a six-month period.
Scaling AI Across Retail Operations
Operational visibility is another key component of the platform. Edgify's monitoring and reporting capabilities help retailers track performance, manage devices and gain deeper insight into store activity. Combined with its ability to continuously learn from the data it processes, the platform enables faster, more informed decision-making over time.
It has also expanded its capabilities into waste management, enabling retailers to identify and record products destined for landfill, recycling or disposal. This helps improve inventory accuracy, strengthen compliance reporting and reduce unnecessary over-ordering.
Delivering these capabilities consistently across large retail environments requires a deployment model that can scale efficiently. Edgify can deploy its solutions remotely across store networks, reducing the need for extensive on-site implementation efforts. This was demonstrated through a rollout across all of a US retailer’s 520 locations in the U.S. (including Hawaii), completed remotely.
Today, Edgify's technology supports more than 2,000 stores and nearly 10,000 devices, drawing on over 400 million samples to achieve 98.6 percent precision. While retail remains its primary focus, it is also exploring opportunities to bring its edge AI capabilities to industries such as healthcare and manufacturing.
From improving checkout accuracy and reducing shrink to streamlining operational workflows, Edgify is helping retailers unlock the benefits of AI while building on the technology already operating across their stores.
