Almost a decade ago, Roland Köhler, CEO of advarics embarked on a journey to build the first-ever cloudbased ERP software for the lifestyle retail industry. He entered the uncharted waters and built the technology from scratch and introduced a full-fledged ERP software to the European market. Today, even after a decade, advarics is still the only company that provides 100 percent full-fledged cloud-based ERP software for this particular market, including fashion, sports shoes, and accessories.

Forging ahead, Roland observed high fragmentation of user demands in terms of functionality as every customer had their own requirements, and it became more complicated to address all the clients’ needs within a short period. He noted that software systems had become critical elements of micro services ecosystems, meaning different applications from other software vendors were connected through web services in real time within a big ecosystem. “That's what we are also targeting with our products as it is more effective to integrate other vendors in your ecosystem rather than programming everything on your own,” states Köhler.

Therefore, advarics implemented technical changes in its software to give its clients better and deeper integrated options to customise their own workflows without the need of coding. advarics acts as an open merchandise management platform where third-party vendors can easily integrate their tools, applications, data, or analytics services through scalable and dynamic web services or interfaces connected in standardised ways. The company has designed APIs for thirdparty vendors that can be consumed within minutes to set up new workflows. “That is the power of cloud technology because data endpoints located across the internet are much easier to connect rather than the ones on-premise servers,” adds Köhler.

This has been of great advantage for several clients over the years, including a company with 220 retail stores all across Europe.

We are completely independent of the form factor of a device as we do not install any piece of software on the user’s device

The client approached advarics for a cloud-based goods management system. advarics thus migrated the client from an old on-premise merchandise management software into the cloud within just four and a half days. advarics eliminated their VPN networks between the different stores and enabled the client to connect to every workstation simply through the internet without the need of centralised server infrastructure. “In comparison to on-premise software systems, we were able to migrate in such a short period as we are cloud-based and there was no need to install software on client’s computers,” says Köhler.

Since advarics utilises the latest progressive WebApp technology, its ERP software can be accessed on all devices and can be run on any operating system such as Windows, Android, or iOS. “We are completely independent of the form factor of a device as we do not install any piece of software on the user’s device,” states Köhler. advarics’s software is much more than a native app from Google Play Store or App Store as its every single line of source code is available on any device without any installation.

advarics has already gained a loyal customer base in eight different European countries and within the next twelve months, the firm aims to expand its footprint in northern and western Europe. On the technological front, advarics is planning to deeply integrate more e-commerce solutions into its ERP software and diminish the difference between stationary and online retail in its ecosystem.
